Fun Stay-at-Home Ideas

“Hello all you cool cats + kittens!”

When I first wrote this, I thought I was so clever but now I’ve seen pretty much everyone saying it! I promise I’ll never say it again. Just wanted to throw it out there at least once.

Anyway, I hope all of you are staying afloat right now. Its been one hell of a rough start to 2020. So much devastation has happened all over the world in these short months. And now COVID-19. So many people have either lost their jobs or are risking themselves to provide for humanity. Others, are fighting for their business to stay alive while others are fighting for their lives. The whole world has been put on pause + none of us know when normal life will pick up again. There are days that I feel calm about everything that’s going on + I know everything is going to be alright in the end. But honestly, there are days that I have so much anxiety about the future that I don’t know what to do with myself other than lay in bed + close my eyes. It’s a roller coaster of emotions I’ve been riding but that’s okay. I know I’m not alone + that brings me comfort. Some days my social distancing looks like reorganizing my apartment, phoning my mom + getting a workout in. Other days, its binge watching Tiger King, in my pajamas, + ordering takeout. Taking care of yourself looks different everyday. Whatever this quarantine has looked like for you or if you’ve run out of things to watch on Netflix, I wanted to share a few fun ideas to entertain yourself while sheltering-in-place. Let me know some of the things you’ve been doing to keep yourself busy during this time! Take care + don’t forget to wash your hands!

Fun Ideas to do at home

1. Create an epic summer playlist. Coming up with a really good playlist takes time + effort. You need a good mix of highs + lows. Remixes are always my go-to. A few of my summer favorites are “Ocean Eyes (Astronomyy Edit)” by Billie Eilish, “Don’t Save Me (Cyril Hahn Remix)” by HAIM + “You Are My Pride” by Nore en Pure.

2. Teach yourself something new. Learn a dance routine (yes, I taught myself a Tik Tok dance, who else has gotten a Tik Tok since this quarantine!?). Or memorize the lyrics to your favorite Rihanna song, mine is Watch n’ Learn. Never had the time to learn guitar? Search Guitar for Beginners on Youtube. Want to improve your Spanish or learn Italian? Download a language app on your phone. Looking for time to do something creative? Do it now. Draw, paint, dance, knit, or whatever you fancy.

3. Bake or cook something from scratch. Have you ever wanted to bake your own bread or how about baking cinnamon rolls from scratch!? There’s nothing quite like making them homemade. And now you have the time to experiment! You can’t cheat + buy Pillsbury ones. Make the dough, filling + frosting from scratch. Maybe it takes you two days but I promise it’ll be worth it. Or whip up a homemade chicken noodle soup or macaroni + cheese with real cheese. It'll taste so much better when you make it yourself.

4. Read a book with a glass of wine. You don’t have to do the wine part but do read! Take 20 or 30 minutes of your day + indulge in a romance or lose yourself in a murder mystery. The wine just makes it more fun :) I just learned that if you have Amazon Prime, you can borrow books on Kindle FOR FREE. I’m currently reading Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis.

5. Work on a puzzle. I just ordered this puzzle on Amazon + I’m eager to get started. I kind of forgot about puzzles for so long but it’s truly a great way to pass the time.

6. Listen to a podcast + color. Another thing I recently bought was this coloring book. I’ve found that when I color, I get super “in the zone” which is why having a podcast playing in the background is perfect. Some of my favorite podcast shows are She Thrives Radio, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe, Rise Podcast, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, + Goal Digger.

7. Play around with your makeup + hair. No better time to do something out of the norm with your makeup + hair than right now. There’s no where to show it off so try out a bold red lip, perfect the application of the fake lash or attempt a dutch braid hairstyle. Document it!

8. Throw a concert in your living room. My mom + I were suppose to go see Celine Dion in concert + unfortunately it was postponed. Not being able to go to an event or see an artist perform is truly a bummer right now but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring it to your living room. Grab a couple drinks, search for one of your favorite artists in concert + stream it on your TV. Check out this live set from Rufus de Sol playing in Joshua Tree, California. It’s amazing!

9. Have a spa night. I saw a funny meme the other day of girls coming out of quarantine with grown out nails, bushy eyebrows +their roots exposed. Although we can’t go to our designated spas + salons right now, we can still take care of ourselves at home. Stock up on a few supplies, put on a cozy pair of slippers + have yourself a spa day at home. Set the mood with candles + relaxing spa music. Concoct one of these DIY hair masks, try this top-rated face mask, exfoliate your entire body by dry brushing, soak your footsies + do an at-home mani/pedi. You deserve some self-love.

10. Have a date night with your boyfriend and/or virtual coffee date with your bestie. Whether you live alone or with other people, have your normal outings like you normally would just… indoors! Order takeout from your favorite spot + have a date night with your significant other. Tacos + margs for me! Or get a coffee + croissant from the coffee shop down the street (they’d appreciate your support) + have a virtual coffee date with your girlfriend! If you want to take it one step further, get dressed up like you would if you were really going out! I think it’s important to continue to live your life the way you normally would just with a few tweaks here + there!

11. Foster an animal. It’s an overwhelming time for animal shelters across the country with a shortage of staff + canceled adoption events. However with a lot of people working from home right now, it’s the perfect time to foster an animal if you can. Especially those who are struggling with stress or social isolation due to the shelter-in-place precautions, this is a great way to feel companionship. I know a lot of us feel helpless right now + this is a small way to make a difference + give love to a furry friend. For more information, call your local animal shelter.

12. Support your local businesses. Make it a point to help out your small businesses during this time. They are relying on your support now more than ever! I know a lot of us are shopping online — shop online from your favorite boutique. Take a yoga class + donate what you can to the instructor. Have a night out of the week where you order takeout from your favorite local spot. Get your favorite oat milk latte from the tiny coffee shop down the street. Shop for your groceries at the local marketplace in your town. Even easier, give them love + support on their social media by sharing it across your network!

I hope this gave you some inspo + ideas to keep you busy during this odd season we’re going though. but We’re going to get through this together! Remember to take care of each other + yourself. Let me know how you’ve been keeping yourself busy (and sane) during this time! xx

Love + light,

Cris
